1. Obama Job Approval

Our presidents approval rating is only at 44%. This means more people in America disapprove of our President's job. A lot of this has to do with the struggling economy and his jobs bill not passing. It seems people have just had enough and it seems like nothing is getting done to help them. Obama's approval rating when he first took office was 69% that number has consistently lowerd and steadied out at around 44-50%. Public opinion will continue to change based on what happens in government. People view nothing being done in Congress as the presidents fault. So when it seems there is government inaction it is logical for people to blame the president. If the job bill is passed and people see action his approval rate will soar. In the words of Chris Matthews in Hardball "what have you done for me lately"

2. U.S. economic Conditions.

Only 9% of Americans classify their economic system as good/excellent. This obviously has a lot to do with our current economic crisis. If 49% of Americans say their economic system is poor there is something wrong. That high of a percentage of "poor" economic system also speaks of Obama's approval rating. If people are not happy with the economy they won't be happy with the president. With such a high unemployment rate this poll speaks volumes. In 2008 28% of people classified themselves as having a "good/execelent" economic system. That number has drastically fell over the years as the economy has as well. If the unemployment rate goes down people get jobs and the stock market soars the number will go up. Hopefully this happens soon rather than later.

3. Election 2012: Generic Presidential Ballot

In a recent poll President Obama would edge a republican candadate by a 1% margin. In August the Republicans had an 8% lead. Now they are losing. This could be accounted for by the primary debates. It seems they are hurting themselves by attacking each other and no one is really gaining ground. By attacking each other they are helping President Obama. A lot also has to do with what Obama is doing in office, if they like his job his percentage will go up, if not it will go down. The republican candadate is based on a republican in general, not specifically one candadate. So it will be interesting to see how Obama would stand against each candadate individually.

4.U.S. Economic outlook

70% of Americans think the nations economy is getting worse. This shows the terrible condition our current economy is in. The number is actually better then it was at it's lowest point in June of 2008 when 89% of Americans thought the economy would get worse. Americans know our economy is bad and don't see it getting better. Since unemployment rates are up people are out of work and some Americans are "underemployed" they can't see it getting better. If something major were to happen to help people get back to work such as the jobs bill the number might change. Mostly over the past few years there has been a double digit percentage in more people thinking the future will be worse. If the number keeps dropping it's logical to ask when will people ever see it as getting better? Sometimes it doesn't make sense because if you keep saying its getting worse and worse how will it get better. If the people think its getting worse they need to elect new officials and maybe than it will get better.

5. Compensating Students For NCAA Sports Participation

51% of Americans oppose the NCAA giving money to students for playing sports. Only 29% support it. Why should a student be paid to play a sport? Their main objective while in an academic institution should be to learn and be a good student. By paying the athletes it is not supporting or sending a good message to the everyday college student. Should they be paid for the clubs or activities they do? In the USA people view athletes as being rich once their careers begin. They don't need the 5000 dollars in college when they could possibly be making millions just a few years later.

Totally agree with the poll on compensating students fro NCAA sports partcipation. It seems the students are becoming more focused on athletics rsther than their education.

I like your article about the generic presidential ballot. The people are too fickle to be able to gauge an accurate approval percentage for either Obama or the Republicans so thats why the numbers change so much

I agree with your idea that people would have stronger faith in the U.S. economy if things like the jobs bill were passed. Since people are out of work and feel helpless they look to the government for blame.

In regards to the US economic outlook poll, I think the people's outlook needs to be more optimistic rather than pessimistic. I agree with your comment in that people seem to think the economy is stagnant and not improving at all. I think the people are waiting for this huge improvement in the economy, but it's not going to happen like that. Once people notice the small changes, then they would notice that change is happening, and they would switch their energy to something else.

I agree with the idea that the decline in the president's approval rating is associated with the of action in government. It is not completely Obama's fault nothing is being done in the government.

Concerning #1: It's so true that citizens are to quick to blame the president. Yes, we're in a recession, but it's not Obama's fault!

I agree with your analysis of the Generic Presidential Ballot. I think that the Republicans are hurting themselves by being in so many debates; they are fighting with each other too much. Another downside to being in so many debates is, just as we discussed today in class, the more the public sees you, the greater chance they have of pointing out flaws.

I agree with you on # 3. The republicans are hurting themselves more than helping themselves in their debates. Even more than hurting themselves, they are actually helping their opponent, Obama. It is pretty evident now that none of the republican candidates are any more valid than Obama.

Saw an interesting interview on the news this morning. There was a republican blaming Obama for (in my own words) 'not being there enough' when it came to the "super comittee." I thought thats why we made comittees, so the president could do his job... Anyway, republicans are finding more rediculous things to disapprove of as Obama is comming up for reelection.
