Is there confidence in U.S. Banks?

  • A major issues that has been plaguing this country the past few years, is whether or not there is confidence in our banks. In the past two months, the citizens of the United States are less confident than ever in the U.S. Banking industry. The most recent survey done by Rasmussen Reports of U.S. adults indicates that just 34% are somewhat confident in the stability of the U.S. banking system, and only 5% are very confident in the system. This report shows just how many Americans, 61%, are not confident in the banking industry. Americans are feeling this way because of how bad the economy has struggled and its not just affecting the major corporations of the nation, but its affecting everything and everyone. The struggle in the economy changed how the way this country functions. Some people are afraid that it could be the Great Depression all over again and the banks failed, so they just don't feel save having their money in the banks. Yes, the public opinion can change and it will change, it will only take time. If the economy can come out of the struggle, I believe that the opinion of the public will change. The public opinion has changed, before the struggles in the stock market and the recession, the confidence in the U.S. banks were higher than what they are at this time today. Yes, the American people are very fickle, we are always changing our opinions. It depends on the situations we are involved in individually and as a nation.

Was Obama's decision to withdrawal the troops, the right decision?

  • For the last month, the talk of the country is did Obama make the right decision to pull the troops out of Iraq. A poll done by Gallup shows that 75% of Americans support Obama's decision to withdrawal the troops. It is also discovered that it is more likely for Republicans (52%) to disapprove of Obama's decisions. While the majority of Democrats and Independents approve the President's decision. Obama finally granted the people's wishes, since 2005 a majority of Americans said the U.S. made a mistake in sending troops into Iraq. Americans are backing Obama's decision because they feel that there is not justifiable reason why Americans should be in Iraq. As of last August, 6 in 10 Americans were opposed to renewing operations in Iraq. Currently I do not see the opinion of the public changing, a majority of Americans wanted to troops to be withdrew for sometime now, and I believed many Americans are pleased that their wish was finally granted. The public opinion has changed over time, if you look when the U.S. first sent troops into Iraq and the rest of the Middle East a majority of the American people were in support of the decision. Now it is the total opposite, Americans want to troops back in their homeland. It just seems that the U.S. has over stayed their welcome in the Middle East. This just shows how the American people are fickle.

Holiday Spendings Up in November

  • As the Christmas holiday approaches, Americans approximately will spend $764 on gifts this winter. The estimate is up from last year's estimate of $714 by $50. Although just a month ago, they predicted Americans would only be spending $712  during the holiday season. Americans seem to be more willing to spend an extra $50 or $100 this year, because they are either have a better job or they gained more confidence in their economic and financial situation, since the stock market is becoming a little more balanced out. The public's opinion has changed from the past years as this year will be the highest estimate spent since 2008, if the estimate is correct. The public opinion may change if there happens to be some economic and financial downfall throughout the country. Maybe the U.S. will be affected by the economic situation in Europe causing a change. This just proves that Americans are fickle, because their opinions change depending on individual and national economic situations.

30% Favorable Opinion of Paterno, 51% Unfavorable

  • Americans are being unfavorable to Joe Paterno, because they feel that Paterno should of took more action against Jerry Sandusky, after the school continued to allow Sandusky to use the football facilities for his foundation. This opinion may change but I find it highly unlikely that it will, since people really bring into consideration the morality of Paterno's actions. This opinion has changed over the passed week from favorable to unfavorable, because the public is gaining more information on Paterno the scandal and are starting to stop looking at Joe Paterno as the legend he was. Again this proves that Americans are fickle, because the changed their mind once they looked at the situation as what was the right thing to do.

Congress Job Approval at Record Low of 13%

  • Americans have a low Congressional job approval, because recently the supercommittee just can not agree on anything and keep the mindset of do the best for the public, instead they are worried about themselves. The public opinion can change if Congress could finally agree on something hat would help improve the life of the public. The public opinion of Congress has changed over the years, because of agreements on certain bills and laws that the public disapproves of, and disagreements that plague Congress from getting anything done when it is needed. The American people are fickle, since the change their mind depending on the agreements and disagreement of laws and policies in Congress.

I don't see why there shouldn't be confidence in US banks because of the FDIC.

I agree that Americans have in more recent years disapproved Congress' actions more frequently than they approved. As you said, Congress has lost the trust of the American people because they are more concerned with themselves rather than the public good.

I agree with you that Obama is doing the right thing by sending the troops home. This topic has been ongoing for a few years now and it is reassuring to see something actually getting done. America has definitely over stayed their welcome in the Middle East.

I'd have to disagree on the idea that the Penn State/Joe Pa situation says anything about Americans being fickle. I think the opinion about both himself and the situation has been generally disapproving. As you said, the opinion probably won't change much because people are looking beyond the legal aspect and into the moral aspect of Joe Paterno's action, or lack thereof. This wouldn't lend to the idea that Americans are fickle.
